The sophistication of tempered glass

TeknoDesign’s frameless fences and railings meet the standards set by the French and European legislation on protection barriers and means of access to pools as well as in construction. Our selected glass frames all bear quality stamp in "tempered safety glass or laminated glass".

Tempered glass is treated with a glass tempering process (rapid cooling) to improve its mechanical properties. Tempered glass is five times stronger than ordinary glass. This resistance is achieved by passing the glass in a furnace at several hundred degrees during its production (thermal quenching).

Alternatively, there is also a chemical process that achieves similar effects. This is known as chemical tempering. This is achieved by passing the glass through an oven and bringing it to high temperatures (570 ° C to 700 ° C, depending on its composition). It is then cooled rapidly at the surface, by means of air jets or by immersion in a bath (silicone bath) at low temperatures. This process has the effect of creating both deep tensions as well as compressions at the surface level of the glass, leading to superior mechanical properties in terms of impact resistance.

Thermally tempered glass cannot be reworked. It cannot be cut, shaped, or punctured. It is therefore important that all customer specifications and requirements are final before tempering.

Glass is qualified as "safety glass" if it is composed of characteristics and features that could reduce the risk of accidents as a result of shock, impact or deformation. Our tempered glass line of products is composed of several sheets of glass bonded together in an inseparable way with one or more interlayers of plastic PVB (Polyvinyl butyral). The number of sheets constituting the glass is defined by safety norms, according to the purpose for which it is intended.
